Computer Aided Adult Literacy Programme

Inmates of 14 out the 54 correctional homes in West Bengal can now work on computers !

Yes, if you happen to visit any of these 14 central and district correctional homes, you are likely to come across a rare sight – the illiterate inmates from interior villages of the State who never had the privilege of going to a school, sitting on their haunches in the computer room and learning how to read and write, the excitement and joy of actually working with computers writ large on their faces.

This has been possible due to the Computer Aided Adult Literacy Programme in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services. The organization has not only provided hardware and software but also training to our officers, teachers and inmates going from one correctional home to another. We, together, have ambitious plans of introducing Computer literacy for inmates in other, selected correctional homes very shortly.
